With the weather having been pretty glum over the past few months, many Brits are wishing for summer to arrive.

It's been a cold, wet and dreary few weeks, and many of us are desperate to see some sun. Perhaps that's why shoppers were left stunned to see one discount store has started flogging goods ready for Halloween.

The spooky event, which is over three months away, seems to be in the back of some people's minds as home accessories have been spotted on shelves.

But shoppers have been left stunned by the decision to stock the items, claiming it's way too early to start thinking about it. Wilko shared a snap of the products on its Instagram page, writing: "Scary, but true. Halloween has started to land on wilko.com."

In the picture, you can see some decorative pumpkins with "boo" written on them, as well as some ghoulish glasses. It looks as though so some people are really getting in the mood for spooky season.

Since the post was shared, over 500 people liked it, but it's attracted mixed reviews. While some can't wait for the autumn months, others think it's way too soon to be thinking about the annual event.

One person said: "It's July for crying out loud. Will it be Christmas tat next month?"

Another wrote: "This makes me sad. We've not even had a summer." A third replied: "Stop it right now."

Some were thrilled by the news though, as they can't wait for the autumn months to arrive. It seems as though some people can't resist getting spooky too soon.

One person chimed in with: "Love these." Meanwhile, another added: "They're so cute."

This year Halloween will take place on Thursday, October 31, so we've got a little while to wait yet. The celebration is marked by many countries around the world, and it takes place on the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day.

It's said to mark the start of the observance of Allhallowtide - a time in the liturgical year which is dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs and all the faithful departed. Now, due to popular culture, the day has become a celebration of horror, as it's often linked to the gory and supernatural.

People often decorate their houses for the occasion, because the celebration has become so popular. Some go all out - just like Christmas - and cover houses will all sorts of scary decor.

Wilko may be one of the first to launch some of its Halloween goodies, but it certainly won't be the last. We can expect to see much more come into shops across the country as we approach the autumn months.
