Grimm Fairy Tales | Zenescope EntertainmentEach issue ofGrimm Fairy Taleshas two parts: a frame story and a fairy tale. The frame story revolves around Dr. Sela Mathers, a Professor of Literature with the supernatural ability to help people to avoid bad life decisions by subjecting them to visions, in which they see themselves as the protagonists of allegorical fairy tales. As the series progresses, she struggles with the fact that several people ignore her lessons and ruin their lives anyway and begins using her ability to dispense justice instead (see issue #15 "The Three Little Pigs"). Sela's nemesis is Belinda, who has the same ability as Sela but uses it for evil.Apr 19, 202424:57Justice League of America | DC ComicsFrom the Justice League's inception in 1960 up until 1984, the team's roster always included a number of A-list characters to draw in readers, such asWonder WomanandSuperman. But inJustice League of America Annual#2 (October 1984), the Justice League was revised to entirely comprise more obscure characters such asVixen,Vibe, and theMartian Manhunter. The original A-list members would not be brought back into the cast until 1996. The motives behind this change were to dispense with the convolutedcontinuitiesof the classic characters by using lesser-known and new characters, thus giving the writers more flexibility to write character-driven stories; and to give the team a more youthful, hipper feel similar to that of theTeen Titansand theX-Men, which were selling better. The cast was multicultural:GypsywasRomani,Vibewas Latino,Vixenwas Black. However, the writing ofVibeandGypsywas criticized for using clichés of their ethnic groups, symptomatic of writers who were well-meaning but out of touch, something for which said writers (Gerry ConwayandChuck Patton) later expressed regret. This era of the Justice League, which lasted about two years, is popularly known as "Justice League Detroit" because they were headquartered inDetroit.Apr 17, 202427:24She-Hulk | Marvel ComicsShe-Hulk(JenniferSusanWalters) is acharacterappearing inAmerican comic bookspublished byMarvel Comics. As such, Walters becomes a large, powerful, green-hued version of herself. Unlike Banner in his Hulk form, Walters largely retains her normal personality in her She-Hulk form, in particular the majority of her intelligence and emotional control. Furthermore, though she's much taller in her She-Hulk form, Walters's body mass is just as dense as that of her normal human self. In any case, like Hulk, She-Hulk is still susceptible to outbursts of anger and becomes much stronger when enraged. In later series, her transformation is permanent, and she often breaks thefourth wallfor humorous effect and running gags, as the first major Marvel character to do so frequently, ahead of the more famous fourth wall breakerDeadpool.Apr 15, 202428:06Teen Titans | DC ComicsThe Teen Titans area superhero team appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, frequently in eponymous monthly series. Spider-Man #1 (August 1990) sold 2.5 million copies, largely due to the variant covers with which Marvel, seeking to capitalize on McFarlane's popularity, published the issue in order to encourage collectors into buying more than one edition. This practice was a result of the comics speculator bubble of the 1990s, which would burst later that decade. McFarlane, unbeknownst to his parents at the time, was making about a million dollars a year. McFarlane wrote and illustrated 15 of the series' first 16 issues, many issues of which featured other popular Marvel characters such as Wolverine and Ghost Rider in guest roles.Feb 05, 202419:48Grab Bag #1 | Ranger RankingsLet's decide which comic from Grab Bag Month reigns supreme. Now that we have completed our first month we will be ranking all the items we have read and put them in order from best to worst. Or worst to best... that was a half empty / half full statement. Anyway we do decide a winner and the results may be suprising. Here come the rankings!Jan 31, 202418:17RoboCop Versus The Terminator | Dark Horse ComicsI was in need of a pleasant suprise and a good read. Deperation could lead to feeling even enjoyment at times. This was a nice change of pace and I feel bad that I never read it. Since it is Grab Bag Month I didn't pull the first issue or the second issue--so the show is a bit wonky. However... This show is all about being a little off and a lot independent. I'm fine with having a little chaos. Let get this battle started!Jan 29, 202414:12Betty of Riverdale | Archie ComicsKeeping with the theme. This has been a light hearted past two episodes, but I think it is good to lighten things up a bit. Another Archie Comic, this time featuring Betty--who is a spy in this story fighting a Super Villain of some sorts. I often question these write ups and how this was given the go ahead since it is so... odd. However that is something that I was prepared to deal with and I think we both handled it well. Onward!Jan 26, 202412:35X-Force | Marvel ComicsI am a big Cable fan, so X-Force was a happy pull from the grab bag. This is one of the first times we have had a glimpse of the X-Future. Which I just made up, pretty good huh? The X-Future is a dark place, Marvel has a history of showing us a future where the bad guys win. This is no exception to that common theme and was well worth the time. Boom!Jan 22, 202412:41Eclispe Monthly | Eclipse ComicsI used to really like Annuals. It was something special with a lot of bang for your buck. Now this is one I won at auction so if you have been listening... I haven't read any of these. This one felt a little disjointed--we both have different Annuals and have mixed opinions. However I was glad to find these in the bin and found some one diamond in the rough. Here we go!Jan 19, 202418:16Star Wars | Dark Horse ComicsFrom one set of starts to another. Star Wars: Shadow Stalker is a one off story featuring a apprentice or mercenary of Darth Vader. Which all sounds great in principle. This should have been a series that with the right amount of time and effort would probably be streaming on Disney+ by now. Since they tend to create things from nothing, this could have been something made from something. I'm getting off topic... Check it out.Jan 17, 202417:42Star Trek | DC ComicsSo, I lost touch with Star Trek a long time ago. But this is Grab Bag Month and I am at the will of the random draw. Today we take a read of two different Star Trek Comics from the same era. These are both based on 'The Original Series' and focuses on... the later years. Let's get to it.Jan 15, 202417:06Halls of Horror | Eclipse ComicsI didn't know who the author was prior to recording todays episode... I have to say this is some dynamite storytelling that took me by suprise and overall I really enjoyed the read. Eclipse Comics seems to have a wide variety in their catalogue. Hopefully this title will not be the last as we continue throughout the year.Jan 12, 202417:57Predator vs Magnus | Dark Horse ComicsNow I know who Predator is and I am assuming you all do as well. Do you know Magnus? I didn't until today and boy am I interested in seeing more. This is a man who was trained his entire life to hunt robots... Fighting against a being from another planet who was trained its entire life to hunt humans and other assorted prey. So this already sounds like something I could get into... From Dark Horse Comics we present Predator vs Magnus.Jan 08, 202417:40Last of the Viking Heroes | Genesis WestEast of the Viking Heroes... Last of the Viking Heroes... I didn't realize until typing this that I said the name of this comic incorrectly the entire show. So I wasn't sure if I should say "Last" or "East" in the title because it may be confusing... So I hope this clears things up. This is from Genesis West, again this is new to me--not sure if there is a Genesis East? Come to think of it that may also be the reason I got the title wrong. Anyway, let us now delve into the adventures of the Viking Heroes who may be from the east but most definetly the last.Jan 05, 202416:16Silver Star | Pacific ComicsYes... Today we are talking about Silver Star. Some of you may be asking... What's exactly is Silver Star? Well until today I would have asked the same question. Luckily we are all on this journey together and on that journey we will learn together. So let's get this started with a grab from Pacific Comics entitled Silver Star.Jan 03, 202416:50Rainger Comics | TrailerWelcome to a new beginning. We have gone back to our roots in the podcast space and will be talking about comics this year. When I started podcasting ten years ago I hosted the Hero Heads Podcast. We talk about different hereoes each episode and the show later evolved to talking about super hero movies and then transitioned into... just movies. Which is a crowded space for podcasts, since everyone seems to be talking about movies and how bad they are. So in order to stand out we will be talking about Comic Books.Dec 29, 202303:24Farewell Fellow Rangers | The Ranger Ryan ShowEven though my contract with Spreaker is ending, it doesn't mean I have to quit podcasting all together. Do you really know Grimace though? Why are we celebrating its birthday exactly? You are going to find out some things about this purple character today along with the McDonald's Corporation. When the chain was founded in 1940 as a restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald, in San Bernardino, California, I do not think they would have guessed that one day a shake would come out that would cause people to record themselves dying from that would increase sales.Hosted on Acast.
