During London Book Fair in March, the IPA will contribute to programming and hold various membership meetings on the sidelines.

A month before the opening of London Book Fair (March 12 to 14), we look at programming both being presented by the International Publishers Association (IPA) and flagged for its membership for its alignment with some of the key issues and foundational principles the world body of book publishing addresses.
You’ll remember that the IPA has experienced a significant rise in influence this year, its membership growing to 101 associations in 81 world publishing markets. That level of “coverage” by a nonprofit trade association across so many borders means that at an industry show like London’s, almost every international trade visitor is either directly engaged with IPA or represented by a publishers’ association which has a relationship with the association. Likewise, this is the case at Frankfurter Buchmesse (October 16 to 20), of course, and at a growing number of additional publishing events.
It’s why many look to the IPA both for valuable programming it produces itself and for cues to other programming worth their consideration.
While so many publishing leaders are gathered in London, there will be several meetings and events held by IPA for some of its committee members. There are meetings, for example, of the executive committee, the copyright committee, the ISBN board, and the organization’s educational publishers’ forum.
But most of the LBF programming IPA points to is either presented in cooperation with the association or something the association has flagged as important to many in its membership and available to all registered trade visitors at the fair.

- 10:45 – 11:00:Opening of the SDG Hub at the Sustainability Hub. In this session, IPA president Karine Pansa joins LBF director Gareth Rapley.
- 11:00 – 11:45: How To Achieve the SDGs at the Sustainability Hub. Former IPA past-president Michiel Kolman, currently the chair of the inclusive publishing and literacy committee joins IPA vice-president Gvantsa Jobava.
- 11:15 – 12:00: Exploring the Ever-Evolving World of Publishing: Global Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities on Main Stage. IPA’s Pansa appears in this group discussion.
- 13:15 – 14:00: Sustainable Publishing 2030: Shaping the Future of an Environmental-Friendly and Ethical Industry on Main Stage. Elsevier’s global sustianability director Rachel Martin joins the United Nations’ Western Europe offices director Sherri Aldis.
- 14:15-15:00: Copyright and AI: A Global Discussion of Machines, Humans and the Law on Main Stage. This panel includes input from the United Kingdom’s Publishers Association CEO Dan Conway and the Association of American Publishers‘ president and CEO Maria A. Pallante.
- 15:15 – 16:00: The Marrakesh Treaty & Global Accessibility in Publishing on Main Stage. IPA executive director José Borghino chairs this session, which features IPA past president Hugo Setzer and Federation of European Publishers director Anne Bergman.
March 13
- 12:00 – 13:00: Publishers Associations Perspectives: Drivers and Barriers for Climate Action at the Sustainability Hub, a session featuring Kolman, Setzer, and the Portuguese Publishers and Booksellers Association’s (APEL) Pedro Sobral.
